The Chicago Bears shored up their pass rush with the addition of edge rusher Darrell Taylor, who was acquired in a trade with the Seattle Seahawks, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. The Bears sent a 2025 sixth-round pick to the Seahawks.
Taylor, 27, has amassed 21.5 sacks, 90 pressures and 34 QB hits in 49 games The former second-round pick has managed to stay on the field, missing just two games in the past three years. Taylor’s best season came in 2022, where he totaled 9.5 sacks and four forced fumbles.
Taylor joins an edge rusher group led by Pro Bowler Montez Sweat, and he’ll factor into the rotation alongside DeMarcus Walker and rookie Austin Booker. The acquisition of Taylor comes shortly after Chicago tried to trade for Matthew Judon before he ultimately landed with the Atlanta Falcons. While Taylor isn’t as big a name as Judon, he’ll serve as key depth off the edge on a potential top-10 defense.
Here’s how social media is reacting to the Bears’ trade for Taylor:
Darrell had a really solid season back in 2021
Low risk high upside trade
Love this for the Bears

I liked Taylor coming out been kind of a one trick speed rusher type but that’s what the Bears need. He has juice as a designated pass rusher https://t.co/HJ1BJ9nWFT

Taylor was nowhere near my #Bears trade list (frankly, I hadn’t heard of him 💀) but he sounds like exactly the 265lb DE2/3 that Chicago has been hunting for.
I’ll dig into his tape ASAP, but on the surface? A 26-year-old OLB with ~6.5 sacks/season sounds very intriguing 🤷♂️ https://t.co/fS9r6OpZ9L

OK Ryan Poles
Darrell Taylor has 21.5 sacks and 34 QB hits in his 3 seasons played. Even though he’s started just 13 games https://t.co/iuPrbhCgJl

Ryan Poles wasn’t waiting for camp cuts on Darrell Taylor. He would have many suitors if he hit the open market.
21.5 career sacks and he missed time during his rookie season
Third in total sacks in the 2020 class. #Bears

New #Bears edge rusher Darrell Taylor:
• 21.5 sacks in last 3 years
• 90 pressures in time with Seattle
• 34 total QB hits
• 2 missed games in 3 years
• Still just 27 years oldFor a sixth-round pick, that’s pretty damn good value.

Not expecting a whole lot but Darrell Taylor seems decent enough depth for a 6th rounder
Bears have multiple 6th rounders next year. They have one from the Dolphins from the Chase Claypool trade. They have their own. And also have one from the Steelers that could become a 4th

Depth move allows Walker to become a 5T on third down. He’s like probably an average pass rush and has been bad against run but better than Khalid Kareem https://t.co/NDxwolN73V

Austin Booker showed enough in pre-season that the Bears didn’t need to land a elite pass rusher, so you ad some good depth instead and now the Besrs might have solved their pass rusher issue with a 5th and 6th round pick https://t.co/Z3A7UOTZng
