Martin Lewis has shared an “important” update as hundreds of thousands of people have missed out on cash from the Government.

It comes after an estimated half a million people did not receive their Child Benefit payments as expected on Monday, June 3, due to a “technical issue” at HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC). Around 30% of Monday’s scheduled payments did not go through, and are now set to land in bank accounts on Wednesday, June 5, instead.




Mr Lewis said some of the people affected may have had a direct financial cost, such as a “bounced payment charge”, due to the cash not arriving on time. The Money Saving Expert founder went on to explain how people in this circumstance can seek compensation.

In a post on X, he said: “IMPORTANT. Pls share. To the 500,000 people whose child benefit wasn’t paid yesterday (now due tomorrow)

“If you had a direct financial cost (eg bounced payment charge) due to it. This is the correct form to complain on & hopefuly get recompense…” [sic]

People can complain online, by phone, or by post, and more info can be found here. HMRC has also confirmed that anyone who has incurred a loss can apply for redress, as reported by the BBC.
