Elle Fanning forged close bonds with the two babies on the set of Margo’s Got Money Troubles.

Elle Fanning plays the lead character in Margo’s Got Money Troubles
The 28-year-old star plays the title role in the Apple TV comedy-drama series about a single mother who turns to OnlyFans to financially support herself and her newborn when she falls pregnant following an affair with her college professor and explained that working with a pair of little ones on set added a sense of “spontaneity” to the part.
Elle told Entertainment Weekly: “We had two babies, River and Graham, who were our Bodhis, and I got so close to them.
“I obviously got to give them back at the end of the day, but they would fall asleep on me and cry during the scenes or make noises during the scenes, but it added a spontaneity that I really enjoyed too – kept us on our toes for every scene.”
Elle’s alter ego faces plenty of challenging situations in Margo’s Got Money Troubles, but The Great star didn’t want the show to take on a dark tone.
She said: “Our take was, of course, yes, we’re gonna tackle those issues in a real way, but then bring it into Margo’s world, which is actually so colourful and bold and whimsical.
“So I was excited about blending the fantasy elements of her kind of wacky mind and her intelligence with also real life and how you have to pull yourself up by your bootstraps sometimes and carry on.”
Elle explained that she was attracted to numerous aspects of Margot in the show – which has recently been renewed for a second season.
She said of her alter ego: “There’s a naiveness maybe in the beginning to her. Life is throwing her a lot of curve balls and at every turn she makes the harder decision for herself, but then miraculously is able to bounce back. It is that resilience, and also through her creativity, I think, that she’s so imaginative.”
Meanwhile, Elle is set to star alongside her older sister Dakota Fanning for the first time in the upcoming World War II-set movie The Nightingale and was taken aback by how “natural it felt” to be collaborating with her elder sibling.
She explained: “I think what I was surprised by is how natural it felt, honestly, because there was a little bit of, ‘Oh gosh, is it gonna be awkward? Am I just gonna laugh? Are we gonna be nervous or embarrassed or something?’
“And it did not feel that way at all. It was very special and felt like we were right where we were supposed to be. So it’s exciting.”
