BVI Finance has launched its annual Tomorrow’s Leaders Internship Programme, placing 32 students across roughly two dozen firms in the territory’s financial services industry, in a move aimed at strengthening the sector’s future workforce.
Now in its third year, the initiative continues to attract strong interest, with officials noting that the application process was highly competitive. The programme targets college and university students as well as recent graduates, giving them hands-on experience in key areas such as finance, law, compliance and marketing.
Speaking at the programme’s recent orientation, Junior Minister for Financial Services Lorna Smith said the initiative is about more than short-term training. “This programme is not just about capability for today, but about building confidence and capacity for the future of this vital industry,” she stated, adding that both students and firms are contributing to a shared space of growth and development.
CEO of BVI Finance Elise Donovan said the programme plays a key role in developing local talent. “Its continued growth reflects the importance of building a strong, skilled talent pipeline to support the continued success and competitiveness of the territory,” she explained.
Programme Lead Shamahl Smith added that participants gain meaningful exposure to the industry while building professional networks that can shape their careers. BVI Finance said the initiative remains a critical bridge between education and employment, helping to prepare young Virgin Islanders to contribute to one of the territory’s most important economic pillars.
