don’t allow someone to win easily

  • She may be a newer team member but she’s smart. She’ll give some of her long-standing colleagues a run for their money in the race for the promotion.

We all need it – money!
 
Don’t throw money down the drain. This means don’t waste money, especially on something that won’t be successful.
 
Why are you still investing in a failing company? You’re just throwing money down the drain.
 
If you throw money at something, you try to solve a problem by spending money rather than thinking of new ideas.
 
The football club are just throwing money at new players instead of changing the manager. 
 
You can say money doesn’t grow on trees to say that you can’t get money easily, or without working hard.
 
I’m sorry, but you can’t have everything. Money doesn’t grow on trees.
 
And if you give someone a run for their money, you don’t allow them to win easily in a challenge.
 
You really gave me a run for my money then. I thought you were going to win!
