TORONTO — Canada’s main stock index climbed higher in late-morning trading, helped by strength in the technology, telecommunication and energy sectors.

The S&P/TSX composite index was up 25.30 points at 31,205.55.

U.S. stock markets are closed for the Thanksgiving holiday.

The Canadian dollar traded for 71.27 cents US compared with 71.13 cents US on Wednesday.

The January crude oil contract was up 26 cents US at US$58.91 per barrel.

The February gold contract was down US$14.80 at US$4,187.50 an ounce.
