A free trading initiative aimed at boosting Wrexham’s Monday Market has been extended until the end of the year.
Since the start of June local and independent businesses from further afield have been able to have been benefiting from rent-free trading.
The initiative came off the back of a group of local councillors coming together to help breathe new life into the outdoor market.
It has led to new businesses using the market and an increase in visitors.
Now Wrexham Council has confirmed that free trading has been extended until December 31.
Cllr Nigel Williams, Lead Member for Economy, said, “We launched this initiative to help support our local outdoor market traders, as well as to grow our city centre offering and it’s proved very to be very successful.
“Traders have appreciated the help we have offered and visitors have appreciated the variety of stalls that are now present in the city centre every Monday.
“It’s now important we continue to support all the city centre traders and the extended period of free trading will bring more and more visitors to see for themselves how the city is changing and what an excellent mix of independent traders we have here.
“I’d like to thank all councillors and officers who have helped and worked behind the scenes to grow the market.”

It is hoped that as well as helping the Monday Market, some traders could be persuaded to trade from the Butchers / General market which will reopen soon following a multi million pound refurb. We are told rates are ‘highly competitive’ , so much so that several traders from Ty Pawb are also considering a move across to the new market halls.
