Basildon Council has published a public notice confirming its intention to pass a resolution designating all streets within the borough as “consent streets”.
This means that street trading will only be allowed with the council’s permission.
The council has also identified a number of roads where street trading will be completely prohibited.
These include major routes such as Broadmayne, the A176, Cranes Farm Road, and the A127 Arterial Road.
Other prohibited streets are Ghyllgrove, Laindon Link, Ashlyns, Tyefields, Rushleys, Felmores, London Road in Pitsea, High Road in Pitsea, Southend Road, Nevendon Road, Golden Jubilee Way, London Road in Wickford, Crays Hill, London Road in Billericay, and Stock Road in Billericay.

The council has also specified several areas where street trading consent will not be required, as other controls are already in place.
These include Basildon Town Centre (Eastgate), Basildon Town Square, Basildon Market, East Square, specific areas of Basildon Town Centre, Pitsea Market, Wickford Market, Gloucester Park, Lake Meadows Park, Northlands Park, and Wickford Memorial Park.

The council’s decision is being made under the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1982.
The new rules are set to come into effect on September 29.
Anyone wishing to make representations regarding the proposed changes has until September 25 to do so.
