In the midst of the ongoing fallout from the significant ‘Dubai Unlocked’ report, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi stood up for his wife’s property investments in Dubai.
Addressing journalists at a press briefing in Islamabad, Naqvi asserted his right to invest where he chooses, countering allegations of wrongdoing. He challenged anyone with evidence of unlawful property acquisition to come forward.
Naqvi proceeded to outline the timeline of his wife’s property purchases, stressing that they occurred before his assumption of any official position.
“My wife acquired property in Dubai back in 2017, a period when I held no executive role. She also holds property in London,” he clarified.
Naqvi emphasized that engaging in business within the country might have been exploited, but legally investing abroad is not a crime. He pointed out that all properties are duly declared with the Election Commission, dismissing claims of illicit gains.
Regarding criticisms about his absence during discussions on the law and order situation in Azad Kashmir, Naqvi cited constitutional constraints.
He explained that post the 8th Amendment, provincial authorities are responsible for managing law and order within their territories, with the federal government providing support.
He clarified that the federal government lacks jurisdiction to make decisions in Azad Kashmir.
