The main place you’ll be able to use your gold coins is the shop, which can be found in every biome. The following will always be how your shop shakes out:

  • Weapon – 400 gold coins
  • Tool (ranged weapon) – 300 gold coins
  • Medallion – 300 gold coins
  • Health item – 200 gold coins

When it comes to taking the first three items, it will be very dependent on your current loadout. It’s usually worth taking weapons and tools with higher damage, especially in early biomes. Though if there’s a weapon you simply don’t enjoy using, or one you feel you aren’t effective with, it’s usually better to keep the weapon you feel more confident with.

As far as medallions, it’s usually worth taking if you have an empty slot, especially if you have the Recycle skill tree upgrade. It’s also usually worth taking if it’s simply one with a powerful ability. Use your judgement and preferences to decide if this is worth it for you.

Finally, there’s the health items. There’s two different options for this item: Anahita’s Blessing, which heals the prince for 600 health. This item is a good purchase if you need the healing, but don’t want to use a potion. You can also fast travel back to this shop any time during the level, so keep that in mind even if you don’t need it yet! The other option is a droplet-appearing item, which will upgrade your maximum health by 100 for the rest of the run. This item should be an instant purchase whenever possible; increasing maximum health is a great boon for any run.

In addition to the shop, you can also find the Forge in the biomes right before a boss fight. In the current build of the game, that’s the Grand Academy, Ruined Aqueduct, and Flooded Gardens. This can be worth using in the academy and aqueduct depending on how much you enjoy your current weapon, but when you find it in the Flooded Garden, use any leftover coins to upgrade your weapon! You can’t use them any further than this, so you might as well use them to invest in your final weapon.

Luckily, every blueprint you get will also give you a temporary version of the weapon or medallion. However, our personal favorite weapons and tools that you could prioritize an unlock for are:

  • Whirling Spear
  • Falcata
  • Bagh Nakh
  • Stealth Spirit
  • Grappling Hook
