If you’re hoping for a summer getaway without paying for it for months to come, a travel agent may have come up with some major help. There are lesser-known methods to secure cheaper flight prices, she has revealed.

Julie Rose, a travel coach at Boutique Travel Advisors, has shared her unique travel hacks in an article in Go Banking Rates. And step one could not be more simple – get to know your foreign currency.

She suggests: “If you need to fly a foreign airline, sometimes you can save on your fare by changing your currency to that of the home country of the airline. Run the numbers for each and use a currency exchange calculator, and make sure you pay with a credit card that carries no foreign transaction fees.”

Julie revealed she saved $40 (£31) on one of her flights by swapping currencies. The digital nomad also suggested forcing layovers to save on flight costs.

She added: “On those long-haul flights, sometimes it’s cheaper to combine two one-ways than take the combo flight you’re offered.”

The Sun reports Julie gave an example of a flight she booked from Buenos Aires to Mexico in January, with a layover in Bogota, which was significantly more expensive than a one-way flight to Lima followed by another flight to Mexico City. This trick may require more patience but could save hundreds of pounds.
