The Open Championship is coming up this week, and as well as the Claret Jug, there is a large amount of money up for grabs.
This year sees The 153rd Open head back to Northern Ireland and Royal Portrush.

Defending champion Xander Schauffele is one of several top players who will be starring alongside Rory McIlroy, Shane Lowry and Scottie Scheffler.
Schauffele claimed victory at Royal Troon last summer, and in the process, he bagged a lot of money.
The Open prize money
There is a grand total of $17million dollars on offer for the players at this year’s Open.
This is the same amount as it was in 2024, which had been a record-breaking sum at the time.
For the winner, there is a take-home prize of $3.1m.
This makes it the third-most lucrative major, with the runner-up taking $1.4m.
From there, it goes down to $350,600 for finishing inside the top ten.

Speaking after the prize money was increased, The R&A’s CEO Martin Slumbers said: “The R&A has a responsibility to strike a balance between maintaining The Open’s position in the global game, providing the funds required for governance and developing amateur and recreational golf in 146 countries internationally.
“We have to make choices if we want to continue to build on the significant growth in participation that is essential for golf’s future.
“We remain concerned about the impact substantial increases in men’s professional prize money are having on the perception of the sport and its long-term financial sustainability. We are determined to act with the interests of the global game in mind as we pursue our goal of ensuring golf continues to thrive in 50 years’ time.”
The Open 2025: Dates and how to follow
The 153rd edition of The Open is being held from Thursday, July 17 to Sunday, July 20.
It is taking place on the Dunluce Links Course at Royal Portrush Golf Club in County Antrim, Northern Ireland.
