South Africa’s former parliament speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula has been charged with corruption and money laundering, prosecutors said on Thursday, after the politician was arrested in a graft inquiry.
“Charges against Ms Mapisa-Nqakula are 12 counts of corruption… and one of money laundering,” Bheki Manyathi, of the National Prosecuting Authority, told a court in Pretoria, where the 67-year-old appeared following her arrest.
