The loved ones of Gogglebox star George Gilbey are struggling to raise the funds for his funeral. A GoFundMe page was set up after the 40 year old tragically died suddenly.
The dad was a fan-favourite on the Channel 4 show and went on to compete in Celebrity Big Brother. He died after falling from a height while at work in a warehouse in Essex.
A man was arrested on suspicion of ‘gross negligence manslaughter’ and was released while police investigate. George leaves behind his eight-year-old daughter, Amelie, and his loved ones have set up a GoFundMe page in the hopes of raising £5,000 for his funeral, The Mirror reports.

It was set upon behalf of his broken mum Linda McGarry, 74, who starred alongside him on Gogglebox. Her late husband and George’s step-dad, Pete McGarry, also featured on the programme before his death in 2021.
In a post on the fundraiser, family friend Rob Barlow – who works for Clacton funeral service – said: “I’ve been asked on behalf of George’s family to set up this GoFundMe page so we can give George the send-off he deserves.
“I know his passing has come to a shock for a lot of people, he was such a big character in life and is going to be sorely missed by friends, family and all who knew him. I think I can safely say we all enjoyed watching him on Gogglebox, Big Brother and all his other TV appearances.
“Anything you can donate would be a great help to the family so thank you in advance The funeral date is still to be confirmed and will be updated in due course.” The statement goes on to add: “Any funds that are left over after the funeral costs will be given to George’s 8-year-old daughter Amelie.”
So far, just over £3,000 has been raised for George’s funeral – £2,000 shy of the £5,000 goal. Click here to view the GoFundMe page.
