Liverpool head into the season-opening Community Shield on Sunday afternoon as odds on favourites to win the first silverware of the campaign as they take on Crystal Palace at Wembley.
Sunday’s game will be the first chance to see some of Liverpool’s six new signings in competitive action for the club, having spent just shy of £270m on incomings this summer.
The ones fans will be most excited to see are the £109m attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz, £83m striker Hugo Ekitike, £41m left back Milos Kerkez and £35m right back Jeremie Frimpong, who are all in line to start at Wembley on Sunday.
The Reds have won five out of their six pre-season friendlies in preparation for the Community Shield this weekend, beating Preston and Stoke in the north west before losing to AC Milan in Hong Kong, beating Yokohama in Japan and then winning a double header at Anfield against Athletic Bilbao on Monday night.
A win on Sunday would make Liverpool the joint-second most successful side in Community Shield history, drawing level with Arsenal on 17, their most recent appearance being a 3-1 win over Manchester City in Leicester three years ago.

Crystal Palace will be taking part in their first ever Community Shield on Sunday afternoon after winning the club’s first ever major trophy by lifting the FA Cup with a 1-0 defeat of Manchester City in the final back in May, also at Wembley.
Oliver Glasner’s summer has been much quieter in the transfer window than their opponents this weekend, signing only two players, left back Borna Sosa for £2m from Ajax and goalkeeper Walter Benitez on a free from PSV, and have so far been able to hold on to their more in demand players such as Eberechi Eze and Marc Guehi.
It has been an eventful summer for the Eagles off the pitch though, with the club qualifying for the Europa League as FA Cup winners, though were forcibly demoted to the Conference League due to UEFA’s rule that two clubs (in this case Palace and Lyon) owned by the same company cannot compete in the same European competition, though the decision is currently under appeal.
The south London side have had an inconsistent run of results from their pre-season friendlies, starting off with victories against Millwall and Crawley before winning only one of their four games in Austria, drawing and losing in a double header against Mainz, and winning and losing in a double header against Augsburg.
Crystal Palace have won only one of their 17 matches against Liverpool, though are unbeaten in four of their last six against the reigning English champions, with three draws in that time.
