Greece and Belgium are to set face off for the presidency of the Eurogroup as they seek to lead one of Europe’s key economic decision-making bodies.
Kyriakos Pierrakakis and Vincent van Peteghem — both of whom are members of the center-right European People’s Party — are aiming to chair the monthly meetings of euro-area finance ministers. A vote is scheduled to take place at the next gathering on Dec. 11 in Brussels, with each of the currency union’s 20 member states given equal voting rights, no matter their size.
