Rangers could finally be on the right path towards parity with old foes Celtic and an initial £20million investment will be “hugely positive” for the club.

That is the view of football finance expert Dan Plumley, who told Football Insider exclusively that this is exactly what the Bears have needed after years of financial strife.

Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises confirmed their takeover of Rangers on 30 May after months of speculation.

The first order of business for the new owners was deciding who would replace Barry Ferguson, following his interim spell at Ibrox.

Former defender Russell Martin was chosen as Rangers’ new manager, beating out Davide Ancelotti for the role.

Alongside the boost of a new manager came a £20m investment from existing shareholders, Cavenagh and 49ers.

£20m investment ‘hugely positive’ for Rangers

Following the boost to the club’s finances, football finance expert Plumley exclusively told Football Insider how impactful the money would be.

After four seasons of Celtic dominance, Rangers are in desperate need of something that can help close the gap between the two sides.

Plumley said: “We always talk about Rangers and Celtic financially, don’t we?

“And that initial investment from the new owners at Rangers will be hugely positive for the club of course.

“The club have come out on record and said, you know, they’ve needed that for a number of years.”

Rangers eyeing move for Man United man Christian Eriksen

Mick Brown revealed exclusively to Football Insider that Rangers are eyeing a move for soon-to-be free agent Christian Eriksen.

Whilst the Danish midfielder is no longer the world-class player he once was, the 33-year-old would still be one of the Scottish Premiership’s best players if he were to move to Ibrox.

Even if the transfer does not happen, Rangers’ interest shows a change in fortunes for a club that has struggled financially in recent years.

But the Bears will face stiff competition for the midfielder, as Brown also told Football Insider Eriksen could return to Ajax this summer.
