Owners of The Trading Post, an outdoor clothing and equipment shop, took to social media yesterday to announce it will be shutting down after trading in the town centre for 40 years.
Lindsey Cumpstone took over the business on South Street in 2019 and said online she had experienced some ‘major bumps’ over the last six years leading to its imminent closure.
Factors contributing to the tough decision to withdraw from the high street include the Covid-19 pandemic and the increased cost of energy prices.
She also said that the after effects of the pandemic had made it harder for traders, including issues arising with the increased costs of buying online.
Many people have offered their condolences to the owner and expressed sadness in losing one of the town’s historic shops.
One person called it a ‘real gem’ and praised the traders for their great customer service.
A closing down sale is to be held to liquidate the remaining stock of the shop.
Ms Cumpstone has been contacted regarding the circumstances of the closure. More information to follow.
