Following the Minkah Fitzpatrick trade, there is now a safety-sized hole in the Steelers‘ secondary — but signing a four-time All-Pro may be the perfect solution.

Former Falcons FS Justin Simmons — best known for his elite play as a Denver Bronco — is exactly what the Steelers need: an inexpensive veteran with a proven resume.

Similar to Fitzpatrick, Simmons had a down year last season — but his regression could easily be blamed on playing in the unfamiliar Atlanta setting. It wasn’t just Simmons either, as the Falcons’ defense did him no favors, ranking as the NFL’s 10th-worst unit in total yards allowed in 2024.

Simmons is still drawing interest from NFL teams, as Panthers insider Joe Person confirmed two weeks ago that Carolina was in contact with the safety’s representatives, but nothing ever came of it.

A revamped Steelers secondary featuring Simmons, DeShon Elliott, Darius Slay Jr., Joey Porter Jr., and Jalen Ramsey feels like something straight out of Madden — a super squad of defensive backs — but it’s entirely possible, and the Steelers should move fast to make it happen.
