The US Open has ended in thrilling fashion, as J.J. Spaun recovered from a nightmare start to win the biggest title of his career
Bryson DeChambeau won this major last year, but he missed the cut, before a 65-foot putt from Spaun on the final hole saw him pass the draining Oakmont test.
It was a shot worthy of the massive pot of money handed out to the champion following a gruelling tournament.
DeChambeau walked away with over $4million for his success last year, but what is the prize on offer for the 2025 winner, Spaun?
US Open 2025 prize money
The total prize pot for the US Open this year is $21.5m.
That is the same amount as it was at the 2024 tournament, which was and still is a record-breaking sum of cash made available at a major championship.
The winner of the US Open, Spaun, will take home $4.3m again.
McIlroy claimed just shy of that reward for winning the Masters earlier this year, while Scheffler was handed $3m for winning the PGA Championship.
Runner-up at the US Open, Robert MacIntyre, will receive just over $2m, while third, Viktor Hovland, claims $1.5m, and fourth, Cameron Young, Tyrrell Hatton, Carlos Ortiz, is the final place to earn over the million mark.
Fifth and sixth at Oakmont will take home $840,000 and $740,000, respectively.
Meanwhile, seventh receives $674,000 and eighth claims around $600,000, with ninth then collecting just below $550,000.
And to round off the top 10, it’s just over $500,000 for tenth place at the US Open.

Speaking about the prize money on offer, USGA CEO Mike Whan said: “Our purse is $21.5 million. Winner’s check is $4.3m. We didn’t raise our purse this year.
“When I started at the USGA just four years ago, our purse was $12.5m, so I feel comfortable that we’ve been a leader in moving fast and bigger.”
He added: “We want to be relevant. We understand the competitive set. We know that this probably isn’t really about the money for the person who [wins on Sunday].
“But at the same time, we want the money to be commensurate with the achievement.”
Meanwhile, Spaun, who started the day a short behind leader Sam Burns, began the final round with three consecutive bogey fives.
However, there was some advice he heard from the great Tiger Woods that was ringing around his ears at Oakmont.

“I was having lunch with Max Homa at home,” Spaun said.
“He was telling a Tiger story where he was like, ‘As long as you just like are still there, you don’t have to do anything crazy, especially at a U.S. Open.’ He’s like, ‘Tiger said this would happen, and the wind will switch, but you’ve got to just stay there. Even if you’re four back, you’ve just got to stay there. You don’t have to do anything crazy.’
“I kind of was thinking about that out there this afternoon, where I was four back, maybe going back out after the delay, and then I made some good pars, nothing crazy.
“Then, next thing you know, I’m like tied for the lead, I think, and within four holes of the restart. That just kind of goes back to that, like you just try to like stay there. You don’t have to do anything crazy, especially at a U.S. Open. All those things came true.”
