The New Indian Consumer Initiative (NICI) has applauded this move by the Tamil Nadu Online Gaming Authority. NICI’s spokesperson, Abhishek Kumar, hailed the initiative, stating, “TNOGA’s crackdown is a landmark step in protecting consumers from the deceptive practices of opinion trading apps. These platforms prey on vulnerable individuals, particularly youth, with false promises of easy profits. While the operation of opinion trading platforms is a national issue, we urge other states to emulate Tamil Nadu’s leadership and take swift action to safeguard citizens from these illegal apps.”
Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has also been at the forefront of raising awareness about the dangers posed by these platforms. In recent months, the organization submitted detailed representations to the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Ministry of Finance, and Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, advocating for an immediate nationwide ban.
Tamil Nadu’s actions align with similar measures in Haryana and Chhattisgarh, where authorities have already imposed restrictions on unregulated gambling platforms. This growing state-level consensus underscores the urgent need for a coordinated national framework to address the proliferation of such apps. Tamil Nadu’s proactive stance not only strengthens consumer protection but also sets a powerful precedent for other states to follow in curbing the unchecked spread of digital gambling platforms.
